Buona Pasqua!

Easter Weekend. We spent Saturday in Verona and Sunday at home. It was lovely.

Woke up to an egg hunt, he was excited!

Dyed eggs.

And ate eggs.

And we even made a fancy dinner. And when I say fancy I mean something besides chicken, haha. Nick was super excited for pork and potatoes.

Buona Pasqua everyone!

Sirmione

On the last day of March we went out to the lake to enjoy the almost 80 degree weather. March in Italy is my favorite so far. Everything is blooming and beautiful (not so fun if you have allergies, Italy is one of the worst places for allergies). Sirmione is a medieval town that sits on a peninsula that goes out into the lake 4 km. At the entrance of the town is a castle, which blocked off the whole peninsula to anyone trying to enter. We explored the castle, ate gelato and played on the lake shore. Definitely my favorite lake town so far.

Coming Full Circle…

We have officially come full circle here in Vicenza. The annual Easter Egg hunt was the first function we attended when we moved here last year, and here we are again. I cannot believe we have now been here a year!!!

Right before the egg hunt Jonah said “I’m scared Easter is gonna get me…”

Smart kid, headed straight for the middle.

My Birthday

Jonah refused to believe that it was my birthday and not his. That’s alright though because it’s got him thinking about his upcoming birthday which I am excited for. For my birthday we went out and ate calzones then went to our favorite Gelato shop right near our house and got one of their Gelato cakes that we have always eyed. They were super expensive though so we ended up with a really small one (this one was $10!) and Nick and Jonah had one bite each and let me eat the rest! It was deeeelicious!

Jonah’s teeth get acquainted with the slide

I know I’m a slacker about the blog lately, sorry about that. This one is just too good (bad??) to not share. Yesterday Jonah’s teeth decided to get to know the wooden rails of the little wooden slide on the playground a little better…have a look.

And this morning, his poor little side of his face is swollen up to his eyeball! Poor little guy! He’s such a trooper too….

And yes, we did take him to the dentist, x-rays looked fine and the teeth are not wiggling at all. So for now, he’s “good to go”. Even though he might look ridiculous for a few years until he loses his baby teeth…

Hot springs with the ladies

Montegrotto Terme (hotsprings) with the ladies for Megan’s birthday. Apparently Italians MAKE you wear a swim cap so they don’t have to clean the hair out of the pool. Smart yet not so stylish.

Bassano Del Grappa

Super cute Italian town with a river and an old historic bridge. We wandered through the market, ate some yummy pizza and skipped rocks. Just a normal weekend for the Lloyd Family. Lovin this weather, it’s been around 70 and sunny!

Four years ago…

Four years ago today Nick and I said “I do” in Columbia, South Carolina. It’s crazy to think back over these past four years…it seems like everything that has happened could not possibly fit into just four years! We have had many amazing wonderful experiences and have been blessed in so many ways. But we have also had our share of challenging experiences and hardships. Each experience, good or bad, has helped us to learn and grow together. It is amazing to have someone who is with you through it all no matter what. Thank you Nick, for always being right by my side. Now with the sappy part out of the way…let’s talk about how we celebrated!

We decided to check out a new restaurant. And let me tell you, it was by far the most authentic place we have been. There was a big open fire and a chop block where they cut and cooked the meat right in front of you. The room was cozy and we felt a bit like intruders in someone’s home. As far as we could tell there were three brothers running the place. There was no menu. The locals all know what they have. They listed off some options for us (we had no idea what we were in for price wise…) I have heard that all of their bird dishes (duck, chicken etc) they hunt themselves. Nick had lamb, I had sausage macaroni. It was reeeeally good and cheap! Don’t worry, when you come visit we will take you!

Highway to Hana

There is this crazy windy road on Maui that goes around the rainy side of the island. Because it’s the rainy side that’s where all the waterfalls and lush green foliage is. There are a lot of fun stops along the way…

Black sand beach

Fresh water pool in a cave

Papparazzi!

Crazy surf that day

Dad shaking a papaya tree, Mom catching lol.

Skyline trail

Instead of riding down the road from the top of Haleakala, my Dad said we had to do it the “better way” by riding the skyline trail down. I was apprehensive. But it was actually pretty fun and not as hard as I had feared. The road to Haleakala is the greatest elevation gain in the least distance. (From sea level to just over 10,000 feet in about 38 miles). And I’m pretty sure that the trail lost elevation faster than the road…so it made for one fun ride down through the clouds. My fearless sister came along and she’s never even mountain biked! My family is crazy! I am happy to report no injuries for this expedition.
